Exynos 9825 – the first chipset of Samsung(Exynos) fabricated on 7nm, is now official. The newer Exynos 9825 comes as the successor of older Exynos 9820 processor. According to the company, it is an upgrade over Exynos 9820, but it doesn’t bring much improvement to call it a successor of Exynos 9820. With Exynos 9820, we have already compared it in the past post.

In past days, Huawei also introduced its flagship killer Kirin 810 chipset in the mid-range segment. This SoC kills all mid-range chipsets in terms of performance and flagships in terms of AI performance. The Exynos 9825 is a flagship processor while Kirin 810 is a mid-range processor, but the features of both chipsets are stronger so we decided to compare Exynos 9825 vs HiSilicon Kirin 810 chipset to find out the difference between Exynos 9825 and Kirin 810. Exynos 9825 vs Kirin 810 CPU & GPU

CPU

The CPU & GPU are the main part of any processor, so the comparison of these parts is mandatory first of all. Starting with the CPU of Exynos 9825, it got the same CPU as Exynos 9820 with a tiny improvement in speed. It has 64-bit octa-core CPU which includes eight CPU cores. It features 2 4th gen custom cores based on tri cluster architecture with a maximum speed of 2.73GHz while 2 Cortex-A75 cores clocked at 2.4GHz. Speaking of other 4 Cortex-A55 cores, they work with a maximum speed of 1.95GHz.

On the other side, the Kirin 810 also ships with 64-bit octa-core CPU which includes 2 Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.27GHz and other 6 Cortex-A55 cores running at 1.88GHz. So in this section, the Kirin 810 can’t beat Exynos 9825 in terms of performance having Cortex-A76 cores, because the Exynos 9825 features 2 custom cores of 4th gen with better clock speed than Kirin 810. The other 2 cores are Cortex-A76 in Kirin 810 while Exynos 9825 has Cortex-A75 cores, but speed is better of Exynos 9825. So in terms of CPU performance, the flagship Exynos 9825 is better compared to mid-range Kirin 810.

GPU

Talking about the GPU section, the Exynos 9825 has the same Mali G76MP12 GPU as Exynos 9820. While the Kirin 810 features Mali-G52 MP6 GPU clocked at 850MHz. Here the GPU is also better in Exynos 9825 to handle graphical tasks smoothly. In terms of GPU, also Kirin 810 is unable to beat the flagship Exynos 9825.

Manufacturing Process

Speaking of their manufacturing process, the Exynos 9825 is built using 7nm LPP EUV process technology. While the Kirin 810 is also fabricated on the 7nm manufacturing process. So in terms of power-efficiency, both chipsets are power-efficient.

Camera

Speaking of camera section, the Exynos 9825 supports same camera sensors as 9820 which are single camera up to 22MP and dual camera up to 16MP + 16MP. While on the other side, according to the launched devices powered by Kirin 810 processor, it can support a single camera up to 48MP. In terms of dual camera, it is capable to support up to 40MP + 24MP dual camera sensors.

In this section, the mid-range Kirin 810 easily beats flagship Exynos 9825 having better camera support.

RAM & Storage

Here the Exynos 9825 is capable to support Quad-Channel 16-bit LPDDR4X RAM up to 12GB with a maximum speed of up to 2093MHz while the Kirin 810 can support Single-Channel 16-bit LPDDR4X RAM up to 8GB at 2133MHz.

While in terms of storage, Exynos 9825 has support for UFS 3.0 & UFS 2.1 types of storage while the details of Kirin 810 regarding this, are unavailable.

Display

Here the Exynos 9825 can support WQUXGA displays with a resolution of up to 3840×2400 pixels and 4K UHD displays with a resolution of up to 4096×2160 pixels. While the Kirin 810 can support full HD plus displays with a maximum resolution of up to 2400×1080 pixels.

Exynos 9825 vs Kirin 810 Artificial intelligence

Here the Exynos 9825 got an integrated NPU(Neural Processing Unit) which delivers enhanced mobile experiences from AI-powered photography to augmented reality. The company claims that the NPU with fast and efficient AI processing brings new possibilities for on-device AI from object recognition for optimized photography. The NPU will also help in faster app pre-loading and pattern recognition.

On the other side, the Kirin 810 became popular for its AI performance. It beats mid-range to flagship chipsets in terms of AI. In terms of AI Hardware, it got a Dedicated NPU based on DaVinci architecture. This is the first mid-range chipset to come with Dedicated NPU instead of APU. While the Exynos 9825 has integrated NPU. So having a dedicated NPU it will perform better over Exynos 9825.

Connectivity Features

In the connectivity section, the Exynos 9825 brings Shannon 5000 Integrated LTE modem which can provide a maximum download speed of 2Gbps using LTE Cat.20 and using LTE Cat.13, it can provide a maximum upload speed of 316MHz. While the Kirin 810 uses LTE Cat.21 to providing a maximum download speed of 1.4Gbps and LTE Cat.18 for uploading speed up to 200Mbps. The other connectivity features like Bluetooth 5, WiFi, NFC, GPS, FM Radio, etc. are provided the same in both chipsets.
