MediaTek Helio G90T vs Snapdragon 845
Taiwanese SoC manufacturer MediaTek recently announced two new SoC under its Helio G90 line-up and named them Helio G90 and G90T. The Helio G90T is a slightly higher variant over Helio G90. The new G90 series is introduced for users who are looking for better gaming chipset in the mid-range segment. In this series, the company has worked on many sections like CPU, GPU, Camera, and AI. All these features are improved in these chipsets. The company has introduced this series to compete with Snapdragon 700 series from Qualcomm. We have already compared these chipsets with Qualcomm Snapdragon 730, 730G and 710.
Here we are to see differences between Helio G90T and Snapdragon 845. Yes, we are going to compare this processor with Snapdragon 845 – a flagship chipset of a time. The Snapdragon 845 an older flagship chipset while Helio G90/G90T is a newer mid-range chipset with improved features. Helio G90T vs Snapdragon 845 CPU & GPU
First of all, let’s compare the CPU section. Starting with MediaTek Helio G90T, it has an Octa-Core CPU based on 64-bit architecture. This CPU includes 2 performance cores and 6 efficiency cores. Its performance cores include 2 ARM’s Cortex-A76 cores running with a maximum speed of up to 2.05GHz while its efficiency cores include 6 Cortex-A55 cores running at 2.00GHz maximum clock speed.
On the other hand, speaking of Snapdragon 845, it also has a 64-bit Octa-Core CPU which includes Kryo 385 CPU cores. The Kryo 385 CPU uses 4 Cortex-A75 powerful cores running at 2.8GHz maximum speed while its other 4 Cortex-A55 cores running at 1.8GHz maximum clock speed.
Here the clock speed of Snapdragon 845 is better while Helio G90T has better CPU cores. In this case, the Helio G90T can’t beat the flagship Snapdragon 845 in terms of CPU.
Talking about the GPU section of Helio G90T, it features ARM Mali-G76 3EEMC4 GPU with a maximum speed of up to 800MHz. This GPU is combined with HyperEngine Game Technology to ensure optimum performance during gaming. While on the other side, Snapdragon 845 got the Adreno 630 GPU. The GPU of Helio G90T chipset outforms over the GPU of Snapdragon 730 & 730G which is Adreno 618. But with its advanced features, it is unable to beat the GPU of Snapdragon 845 which performs better over it.
Speaking of the manufacturing process of Snapdragon 845 which is a flagship processor. It works on the 10nm fabrication which is a pretty awesome thing but MediaTek Helio G90T is still working on 12nm like its previous generations. For a gaming chipset, the 12nm fabrication process is not enough because the processor should be much power efficient for gaming. So here the Snapdragon 845 is much better chipset over Helio G90T.
Talking about AI, in MediaTek Helio G90T the company has also improved AI features along with CPU, GPU & Camera features. It has dual APU and this combination of CPU, GPU and APU are capable to deliver up to 1TMACs performance for better power efficiency and smooth gaming experience.
On the other side, Snapdragon 845 has Qualcomm Hexagon 685 DSP for AI processing along with so much of extra features like Hexagon Vector eXtension, All-Ways Aware technology, etc. from the company. This AI setup is capable to deliver a decent mid-range level of AI performance. This chipset was launched in 2017 when the craze of AI was only in flagship chipsets and now in 2019, the mid-range chipsets can easily compete with those chipsets in terms of AI.
Helio G90T vs Snapdragon 845 Supported Features
Moving to the camera department, here also Helio G90T got some improvements. It has triple ISP which can support a single camera sensor up to 64MP at 22.5fps. For the dual camera, it has support for up to 24MP + 16MP camera sensors at 30fps.
At the same time, Snapdragon 845 has Qualcomm Spectra 280 ISP which can allow it to support up to 16MP dual camera sensor at 30fps with MFNR and ZSL. While, in terms of a single camera, it has support for up to 16MP single camera at 60fps with MFNR and ZSL, up to 32MP at 30fps with MFNR and ZSL, up to 48MP with MFNR only and without MFNR and ZSL, it can support up to 192MP single camera sensor.
Speaking of RAM support in MediaTek Helio G90T, it has support for LPDDR4X RAM up to 10GB with a maximum speed of up to 2133MHz. At the same time, Snapdragon 845 supports Dual-Channel LPDDR4X RAM up to 8GB at 1866MHz.
In the storage section, MediaTek Helio G90T supports UFS 2.1 and eMMC 5.1 types of storage while Snapdragon 845 supports UFS2.1 Gear3 2L and SD 3.0 (UHS-I) types of storage.
In this section, MediaTek Helio G90T can support 21:9 up to Full HD Plus displays at 90Hz with a maximum resolution of up to 2400 x 1080px. On the other side, Snapdragon 845 can support up to 4K Ultra HD.
Connectivity-wise, the Helio G90T has a 4G LTE Cat-12 modem for capturing a download speed of up to 600Mbps and an upload speed of up to 150Mbps using LTE Cat-13. It also has other features like Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, FM Radio, Dual 4G VoLTE, VoWi-Fi, etc.
At the same time, Snapdragon 845 has Snapdragon X20 LTE modem which uses LTE Category 18 to capturing a maximum download speed of up to 1.2 Gbps and an upload speed of up to 150Mbps using LTE Category 13. Othe features like Tri-WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS, GLONASS, FM Radia, USB 3.1, etc. are also supported in it. For fast charging, it has support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 4 technology.
