In past days, MediaTek unveiled its new chipset Helio P65 for mid-range devices. It is a successor of MediaTek Helio P60 and Helio P70 launched last year. The MediaTek Helio P65 has improved features compared to Helio P60, P70 and better gaming experience and 25% faster performance compared to alternatives. The Helio P65 arrives with 100% boost in AI performance and 30% improvement in AI camera. This chipset also has a support for 48MP camera which is being used too much in smartphones. Helio P65 vs Snapdragon 665 CPU & GPU

Starting with CPU of Helio P65 chipset, it features an Octa-Core CPU based on 64-bit. It is build using 12nm fabrication process. This chipset supports two high-performance ARM Cortex-A75 cores clocked at up to 2.0GHz clock speed and other six Cortex-A55 cores for handling normal tasks. It is coupled with the Mali-G52 GPU with a peak frequency of 820MHz.

At the same time, the Snapdragon 665 chipset also offers a 64-bit Octa-Core CPU and it works on 11nm based fabrication process. This chipset features Kryo 260 CPU. In case of Cores it has four powerful ARM Cortex-A73 Cores clocked at 2.0GHz and other four efficiency Cortex-A53 Cores clocked at 1.8GHz of clock speed. In case of GPU, the Snapdragon 665 chipset features the Adreno 610 GPU which is an upgrade of Adreno 512.

Both chipset has almost same CPU Frequency but the Helio P65 features better cores which are 4 x Cortex-A75 and 4 x Cortex-A55. So the MediaTek Helio P65 will provide better performance compared to Snapdragon 665 chipset.

Camera Support

The Camera department of Snapdragon 665 is mainly managed by the ISP. This chipset has the Qualcomm Spectra 165 ISP which is an upgrade of the Spectra 160 ISP. With this Spectra 165 ISP, the Snapdragon 665 chipset can support dual camera up to 16MP and single camera up to 25MP. It is capable to capture snapshots up to 48 megapixels. To use 48MP camera, you have to compromise with the features such as Multi Frame Noice Reduction and Zero Shutter Lag which are available with the 16-megapixel or 25-megapixel camera sensors. With the camea of Snapdragon 665 chipset, you can record videos in 720p at 240fps, 1080p at 120fps and in 4k at 30fps.

On the other hand, the MediaTek Helio P65 arrives with the support for a single camera up to 48 megapixels and a dual camera setup of up to 16MP. This chipset also has new ISP design for faster and more secure facial recognition. It also has camera features such as AI Face Unlock, AI Smart Photo Album, Single-Cam/Dual-Cam Bokeh, Hardware Warping Engine (EIS), Rolling Shutter Compensation (RSC) engine, MEMA 3DNR and Multi-Frame Noise reduction. In terms of video recording, its 48MP camera can record videos at 17fps, 16 + 16MP at 30fps and 25MP at 30fps.

RAM, Storage and Display Support

In the case of RAM & Storage, the Helio P65 chipset supports up to LPDDR3 RAM with maximum frequency of 933MHz and up to 8GB LPDDR4X RAM with maximum frequency of 1800MHz. It also supports eMMC 5.1 type of storage.

On other side, the Snapdragon 665 chipset supports up to 8GB LPDDR4X RAM at 1800MHz and storage type of eMMC 5.1.

The Helio P65 can support a maximum display resolution of 2520×1080 pixels whereas the Snapdragon 665 supports a maximum display resolution of 2520×1080 pixels.

Helio P65 vs Snapdragon 665 AI Capabilities

According to company’s claims, the MediaTek Helio P65 has 2X improved AI performance compared to its previous generation and 30% faster performance compared to its competitors in AI-camera tasks such as object recognition, Smart Photo Album, scene detection and segmentation with background removal, and single or dual camera Bokeh shots. The MediaTek Helio P60 was the first chipset to come with a dedicated AI Engine and the Helio P65 is its upgrade so it will provede 2X better performance compared to Helio P60.

Here the Snapdragon 665 chipset has Qualcomm Hexagon 686 DSP which is an upgrade of Hexagon 685 DSP. Here, in the case of AI, the DSP matters the most. The Hexagon 685 DSP has been used in many chipsets of Qualcomm and it performs good. This chipset has Qualcomm’s 3rd generation AI Engine which performs smart biometrics for features like 3D Face Unlock, Object Detection and opens up more camera capabilities including Portrait Mode and Low Light Night Mode.

Connectivity Features Comparison

In the department of connectivity, the Snapdragon 665 has Qualcomm X12 LTE modem which can allow it to capture a download speed of up to 600Mbps using LTE Category 12 and a upload speed of up to 150 Mbps using LTE Category 13. It support Bluetooth version 5.0, dual band WiFi 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz and USB version 3.1.

On the other hand the Helio P65 supports LTE Cat-7 for downloading and LTE Cat-13 for uploading. Other connectivity features in both chipsets are almost same.

Now come on conclusion, the MediaTek Helio P65 has better CPU, GPU and AI features compared to Snapdragon 665. It has inbuilt support for 48MP camera and bette AI features in camera department. While in some cases the Snapdragon 665 performs better. It has better fabrication process and better connectivity features. But in overall comparision, the MediaTek Helio P65 performs better compared to Snapdragon 665.
