A few time ago, Huawei introduced three models of its Nova 5 Series – Huawei Nova 5i, Huawei Nova 5 Pro and Huawei Nova 5. The Huawei Nova 5i arrives with Kirin 710 chipset, Nova 5 Pro comes with Kirin 980 chipset while the Huawei Nova 5 ships with new Kirin 810 chipset. The company has announced this chipset with the Nova 5 series and Huawei Nova 5 is the first smartphone to come with HiSilicon Kirin 810 chipset.

The Kirin 810 is a mid-range chipset and works 7nm manufacturing process. This is second chipset of company to be based on a 7nm fabrication process. Before it the Kirin 980 was only the chipset of company to work on this process and it is a flagship lavel chipset. This Kirin 810 chipset beats all mid-range chipsets in Benchmarking Scores and many flagship chipsets in AI Benchmarking Scores. Kirin 810 and Exynos 9820 CPU & GPU

Starting with CPU of HiSilicon Kirin 810 chipset, it has 64-bit Octa-Core CPU. This chipset is build using 7nm manufacturing process. Speaking of its cores, it has two powerful Cortex-A76 Cores clocked at 2.27GHz clock speed along with six Cortex-A55 Cores clocked at 1.88GHz clock speed. It has Dedicated NPU – DaVinci architecture. In case of GPU, the Kirin 810 chipset offers Mali G52 MP6 GPU clocked at maximum speed of up to 820MHz.

On other side the Exynos 9820 is also a 64-bit Octa-Core chipset. It works on 8nm LPP FinFET Process. This chipset has two custom cores, two ARM’s Cortex-A75 Cores while 4 Cortex-A55 Cores. It also has integrated NPU. In terms of GPU, the Exynos 9820 chipset offers ARM Mali-G76 MP12 GPU.

Camera & Display

Talking about the display support of Exynos 9820, it can support WQUXGA display with a resolution of up to 3840×2400 and 4K Ultra HD display with a resolution of up to 4096×2160. In case of camera the Exynos 9820 chipset can support single rear camera of up to 22MP and single front camera of up to 22MP. In terms of dual camera it can support up to 16MP + 16MP dual camera. It can record videos in 8K at 30fps or 4K UHD at 150fps, encoding and decoding with 10-bit HEVC(H.265), H.264, VP9.

RAM & Storage

Speaking of Kirin 810 chipset, it can support up to 8GB LPDDR4X RAM with a clocked speed of up to 2133MHz and in case of storage it supports UFS 2.1 type storage.
On the other side, the Exynos 9820 chipset supports up to 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and both UFS 3.0 and UFS 2.1 storage.

Connectivity Features Comparison

The Exynos 9820 chipset has LTE Modem having LTE-Advanced Pro Cat.20 8CA with download speed of up to 2Gbps and Cat.20 3CA with upload speed of up to 316Mbps. While the details of modem of Kirin 810 chipset are also unavailable. Other connectivity features of both chipsets like Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth® 5.0, FM Radio are same of both chipsets.


The HiSilicon Kirin 810 is a new chipset which offers a better CPU and better GPU as well as fabrication process compared to Exynos 9820 chipset. Some details of Kirin 810 chipset are unavailable because of which we are unable to do full comparision of Kirin 810 vs Exynos 9820.
