Starting the comparision with CPU, both chipsets are 64-bit octa-core chipsets. However, the fabrication of both chipsets is quite different. Like the HiSilicon Kirin 980 chipset, the Kirin 810 also works on 7nm manufacturing process whereas the Kirin 970 chipset works on 10nm manufacturing process. There is the difference of almost one generation between manufacturing process of these chipsets as usual the latest is greatest. The Kirin 810 build on 7nm is better as compared to the Kirin 970 build on 10nm.


Moving on cores, both chipsets have octa-core CPU but the used techonlogy is pretty different. The HiSilicon Kirin 810 chipset features eight cores (2+6) in which 2 ARM Cortex-A76 powerful cores clocked at 2.27GHz to handling high processing like gaming. While the other 6 Cortex-A55 efficiency cores are clocked at 1.8GHz to handling the normal tasks like web browsing. In terms of GPU the Kirin 810 has the Mali G52 MP6 CPU clocked at 820MHz.

It has 4 Cortex-A73 micro-architecture with a clock speed of 2.36GHz to handling heavy tasks while the other 4 Cortex-A53 work with a speed of up to 1.8GHz to handling the normal tasks. In terms of GPU the HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset features Mali G72 MP12 GPU clocked at 870MHz.

In terms of CPU the Kirin 810 is better than Kirin 970 because it works on better manufacturing process and higher frequency. Speaking of GPU, the Mali G72 MP12 GPU competes with Adreno 530 and 540 in terms of benchmarks but there is no sufficient information available about the Mali G50 GPU as of writing this comparison. But the company claims the GPU of Kirin 810 chipset is able to provide 44% better frames in gaming as compared to the Adreno 618 GPU of Snapdragon 730. So we can aspect better performance from GPU of Kirin 810 chipset as compared to the Mali G72 MP12 GPU of Kirin 970 chipset.

AI one of the area of Kirin 810 where the company has focused. The company did great job in making this chipset an AI beast chipset. The company claims that this chipset can easily beat to Snapdragon 855 and Helio P90 chipsets in terms of AI processing. Also it beats to them in AI Benchmarkig scores. This is not the first mid-range chipset to come with a dedicated NPU along with the power of the company’s new Da Vinci architecture. In terms of AI configuration the Kirin 810 chipset beats to the flagshipset HiSilicon Kirin 980 chipset so how can the Kirin 970 chipset beat to the Kirin 810 chipset in terms of AI configuration.

HiSilicon Kirin 810 Vs Kirin 970 Camera Support

HiSilicon is not very good when it comes to the sharing of deep information about their chipsets. The same problem is with the Kirin 810 and Kirin 970 chipsets. There is no any deep information available about the camera and optics capabilities of these chipsets. In the imaging departments the processor does not play a crucial role. It totally depends on how good the company is optimizing the image processing and how good the sensors are used in the phone.

The HiSilicon Kirin 810 chipset features a new IVP+ISP structure. The company claims that the Kirin 810 is capable to capturing flagship level detailed images, even in the low-light condition too. According to news the Kirin 810 chipset can support 40 + 24 dual camera sensors. While the Kirin 970 is now an old processor that comes with the traditional Dual ISP of the company. It is very capable but it can’t beat Kirin 810 chipset.

Connectivity Features

The HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset has Cat.18 and Cat.13 and it can provide a download speed of up to 1.2Gbps and upload speed of up to 150Mbps. At the same time the modem capabilities of the Kirin 810 are not available right now. Other connectivity features like Dual 4G VoLTE, Dual-Band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0 are same in both chipsets.


So, the overall conclusion is that the Kirin 810 is really a good and new chipset. In AI performance it is beating to flagship chipsets as well as mid-range chipsets. In terms of overall performance it beats to midrange chipsets because it is a next lavel chipset and it is the first mid-range chipset to work on 7nm manufacturing process.

So the HiSilicon Kirin is a old chipset and it is unable to beat this chipset in AI or other catagory.
