Huawei just announced the Nova 5 series with HiSilicon Kirin 810 chipset. The Kirin 810 is a new midrange mobile chipset based on Huawei’s 7nm manufacturing process. It is second chipset of the company to run on 7nm manufacturing process after Kirin 980 chipset. The Kirin 810 is a midrange platform on paper and it does not disappoint in benchmark either. HiSilicon Kirin 810 vs Kirin 980 CPU and GPU
Speaking of CPU of Kirin 810, it is a 64-bit octa-core CPU. The HiSilicon Kirin 810 chipset features 2 ARM Cortex-A76 powerful cores which are clocked at 2.27GHz while other 6 Cortex A-55 efficiency cores are clocked at 1.8GHz. The 2 big cores will work in heavy tasks like gaming and little cores will work for normal tasks like calling, web browsing and photography. Like Kirin 980 it also works on 7nm manufacturing process. In terms of GPU it features Mali G52 GPU running at 850MHz. It has 6 clusters as its name suggests.
Speaking of Kirin 980, it is also an octa-core chipset and works on 64-bit system. The Kirin 980 was the world’s first chipset to come with Cortex-A76 Architecture and first chipset of the company to work on 7nm manufacturing process. Its 8 cores are devided into 3 catagories – super core, large core and small efficiency cores. Its two super cores have ARM Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.26GHz, the large cores have Cortex-A76 with speed of 2.26GHz while the four small efficiency cores are Cortex-A55 clocked at 1.8GHz.
The Huawei uses Flex Scheduling Intelligence Mechanism to allow the CPU to adopt CPU in different scenarios for better power efficiency. The Kirin 810 chipset features two Cortex-A76 cores whereas the Kirin 980 houses four Cortex-A76 also the clocked speed of HiSilicon Kirin 980 is higher as compared to Kirin 810 chipset features.
In terms of GPU the HiSilicon Kirin 980 chipset features Mali G76 MP10 GPU ticking at 750MHz. We haven’t tested the performance of GPU of both chipsets but we are aspecting Mali G72 MP6 of Kirin 980 to perform better as compared to Mali G52 MP6 GPU of Kirin 810 chipset.

Huawei was the first company to use a dedicated NPU in its mobile chipsets. The HiSilicon Kirin 970 was launched with a dedicated NPU Engine. Huawei has used a dual-core NPU Engine in Kirin 980 that can recognize 4500 images in a minute. It also has features such as Object Recognition, Object Detection, Image Segmentation, and Intelligent Translation.
In the mid-range chipset Kirin 810, the company has used the AI Capability in a different level. The Kirin 810 chipset features an NPU Engine that is made using company’s own Davinci Architecture. In the AI Benchmark scores the Kirin 810 chipset is beating to its all competitors by a margin. The HiSilicon Kirin 810 beats to Snapdragon 855, Helio P90 and Kirin 980 with ease in AI performance. In terms of AI performance the Kirin 810 chipset is better as compared to other chipsets available in the market.
RAM and Memory Support
Speaking of Kirin 980, it is a 4th Gen processor. It features Multi Pass and Multi Noise Reduction Technology. Speaking of camera options in Kirin 810, the company hasn’t shared any information regarding this. But according to the news it can support 40+24MP dual camera. In terms of RAM support, both of these chipsets support 4 channel LPDDR4X RAM clocked at 2133MHz. They also support UFS 2.1 storage.
HiSilicon Kirin 810 vs Kirin 980 Connectivity Features
The Kirin 980 is world’s first chipset that supports LTE Cat.21. With the help of LTE Cat.21 this chipset can provide up to 1.4Gbps download speed and with the help of Lte Cat.18 it can provide 200Mbps upload speed. The details about Modem of Kirin 810 are yet to come. Other Connectivity features of HiSilicon Kirin 810 and Kirin 980 include options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5, NFC. The GPS Technology in Kirin 980 uses L1+L5 Dual Frequency Ultra-Precise Technology for better GPS functionality.
Now come on conclution, the Kirin 810 is a geat chipset in mid-range which works on 7nm process. It houses Cortex-A76 Cores as well as powerful GPU. The best feature of Kirin 810 is its NPU Engine that is capable to beating other flagships in the AI Benchmarks. All these features of Kirin 810 chipset are great but the Kirin 980 is a flagship chipset instead of mid-range, so obviously it will not let Kirin 810 go ahead.
