Starting with the CPU of the Kirin 980 chipset which has a 64-bit octa-core CPU having big and little cores. Its big cores include 4 Cortex-A76 cores operating at up to 2.6GHz clock speed while the little cores include 4 Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. Whereas the Snapdragon 845 also features a 64-bit octa-core CPU which is the company’s Kryo 385 CPU. This CPU features high-efficiency and high-performance cores with difference CPU architecture and frequency. The Kirin 980 has a dual-core NPU which is capable of recognizing up to 4500 images per minute which is an improved 120% recognition speed. Using AI in the camera section, it can quickly adapt to AI scenes such as face recognition, object recognition, object detection, image segmentation, and intelligent translation.
On the other hand, the Snapdragon 845 was launched for the devices of 2018. This chipset features the Qualcomm Hexagon 685 DSP which is capable to deliver good AI performance in the mid-range but not in flagship range. It also can support up to 48MP camera with MFNR only and 192MP without MFNR & ZSL.
On the other side, the Kirin 980 is capable to support up to 48MP single and 40MP + 24MP dual camera sensors.

Here the Kirin 980 supports 16-bit Quad-Channel LPDDR4X RAM up to 8GB operating at up to 2133MHz and UFS 2.1 & UFS 3.1 based storage.
At the same time, the Snapdragon 845 also supports 16-bit Quad-Channel LPDDR4X RAM up to 8GB operating at up to 1866MHz and storage types of UFS2.1 & SD 3.0.
In the display section, the Kirin 980 can handle up to 4K UHD displays whereas the Snapdragon 845 also supports up to 4K Ultra HD displays with a maximum resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels.

In the connectivity section, the Snapdragon 845 got the Snapdragon X20 LTE modem with a maximum download speed of 1.2Gbps using LTE Cat.18 and an uploading speed of up to 150Mbps using LTE Cat.13. For fast charging, it has support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 4 technology.
At the same time, the Kirin 980 uses LTE Cat.21 to capture a maximum download speed of 1.4Gbps and uploading speed of 200Mbps using LTE Cat.18. Both chipsets have support for other features like Tri-band Wi-Fi, VoWiFi, Dual 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5, NFC, GPS, and FM Radio, etc.
