MediaTek announced its Helio G series for gaming purposes. Under this series, the company introduced its two new chipsets MediaTek Helio G90 as well as Helio G90T. MediaTek Helio G90T is a slightly higher variant over Helio G90. Both chipsets are mid-range chipsets which are introduced to compete with recently launched chipsets from Qualcomm – Snapdragon 730 & 730G. MediaTek Helio G90 will give a direct competition to Snapdragon 730 while Helio G90T to Snapdragon 730G. So we decided to MediaTek Helio G90 vs Snapdragon 730 chipsets.

Helio G90 vs Snapdragon 730 CPU & GPU
Starting the comparison with CPU, here MediaTek Helio G90 got an Octa-Core CPU based on 64-bit architecture. It has CPU Configuration of 2+6. The first 2 Cortex-A76 big cores running at 2.00GHz while other 6 Cortex-A55 small cores also operating at 2.00GHz clock speed. On the other side, Snapdragon 730 also features 64-bit Octa-Core CPU which includes 2+6 having Kryo 470 Cores. The Kryo 470 Cores include 2 Cortex-A76 Gold Cores operating at 2.2GHz while other 6 Cortex-A55 Silver Cores work with a clock speed of up to 1.8GHz. Here the speed of the first 2 powerful cores, is better in Snapdragon 730 while the other 6 small cores work with higher frequency in Helio G90.
In the case of GPU, Snapdragon 730 features Adreno 618 GPU operating at 500MHz. It is an upgrade of all previous GPUs of Adreno 600 series. On the other side, Helio G90 got ARM’s Mali G76 MP4 GPU which is running at 720MHz clock speed. In this case, the GPU is better of MediaTek Helio G90. It is a gaming-focused processor so it should have a better GPU. In terms of gaming and other graphical tasks, MediaTek Helio G90 is ahead over Snapdragon 730.
Let’s compare their manufacturing process. Speaking of MediaTek Helio G90, it works on the 12nm manufacturing process. At the same time, Snapdragon 730 works on the 8nm manufacturing process. There is a difference of 4nm between both of these processors because of which, Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 is much power efficient chipset over Helio G90.
Helio G90 vs Snapdragon 730 Supported Features
In this section, for camera support, Snapdragon 730 got Spectra 350 Image ISP which is a 14-bit 2x Image Signal Processor. Speaking of its camera support, it can support a dual camera up to 22MP at 30fps MFNR and ZSL. In terms of a single camera, it can support up to a 36MP single camera sensor at 30fps with MFNR and ZSL. While with MFNR only it can up to 48MP camera sensor and 192MP camera sensor without MFNR and ZSL.
On the other hand, MediaTek Helio G90 is capable to support up to 48MP single camera sensor and dual camera up to 24MP + 16MP.
RAM & Storage
In terms of RAM support, MediaTek Helio G90 supports LPDDR4X RAM up to 8GB operating at 2133MHz while Snapdragon 730 can also support LPDDR4X RAM up to 8GB.
In the case of storage support, both chipsets support UFS 2.1 and eMMC 5.1 types of storage.
Speaking of display support, MediaTek Helio G90 supports 60Hz 21:9 Full HD Plus display with a maximum resolution of up to 2400 x 1080px. While Snapdragon 730 can support up to FHD+ displays with a maximum resolution of up to 2520 x 1080px.
Helio G90 vs Snapdragon 730 AI Capabilities
The AI name is being seen in only recently launched chipsets from MediaTek. The most successful chipset Helio P60 comes with dedicated APU in mid-range and after that Helio P90 brings APU 2.0 for best performance in terms of AI. About the AI performance of Helio G90 or G90T is not available. We just know that MediaTek Helio G90 has 2x MediaTek APU operating at 750MHz.
On the other side, Snapdragon 730 has Hexagon 688 DSP to handle all the AI tasks. It is a 4th Generation AI Engine from Qualcomm.
Connectivity Features Comparison
Connectivity-wise Snapdragon 730 got Snapdragon X15 LTE modem which uses LTE Category 15 to provide a download speed of up to 800Mbps and LTE Category 13 to provide an upload speed of up to 150Mbps. It also has features such as Dual VoLTE, VoWiFi, Dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS, FM Radio, USB 3.1, USB-C, etc.
On the other side, MediaTek Helio G90 uses Cat.12 LTE Modem for download and Cat.13 for upload. Its maximum download is 800Mbps and upload speed is 150Mbps. Other features like Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, FM Radio, Wi-Fi 5, etc. are also provided in it.
