Now recently this series included a new player which is MediaTek Helio P65. Its name suggests it is a successor of the Helio P60, but it is not the only successor of the Helio P60. MediaTek Helio P65 vs Snapdragon 636 CPU, GPU & Manufacturing Process
Talking about the CPU section of MediaTek Helio P65, it has a 64-bit octa-core CPU which incorporates eight cores – two ARM Cortex-A75 big cores clocked at 2GHz and six Cortex-A55 little cores operating at up to 2 GHz. While speaking of the Snapdragon 636, it also brings a 64-bit octa-core Kryo 260 CPU which includes 4 Cortex-A73 Gold cores and 4 Cortex-A53 Silver cores ticking 1.80GHz clock speed.
Here the CPU performance of MediaTek Helio P65 is much better than the Snapdragon 636. The Helio P65 is a better chipset than the Snapdragon 636 having latest CPU architecture with higher frequency.
Looking at their GPU section, here in the Helio P65 you get Mali-G52 GPU clocked at 820MHz clock speed whereas the Snapdragon 636 is coupled with the Adreno 509 GPU. Here the GPU is also better in the Helio P65 compared to the Snapdragon 636. In terms of gaming, the Helio P65 will perform well over the Snapdragon 636.
Talking about their manufacturing process, the Snapdragon 636 is built using the 14nm fabrication process while the Helio P65 works on the 12nm fabrication process. Here the Helio P65 is a more powerful and power-efficient chipset compared to the Snapdragon 636.
MediaTek Helio P65 vs Snapdragon 636 AI Capabilities
All the mid-range chipsets of MediaTek are famous for their AI performance. From the Helio P60 to the Helio P90, all these chipsets have very good AI processing compared to their competitors. The Helio P60 brings a dedicated APU which was not provided in any mid-range chipset before it. After that, the Helio P70 came with improved AI processing. Now the Helio P65 brings improved AI performance over both of these chipsets. The company claims that it brings 2X improved AI performance over its previous generation and 30% faster performance than its competitor SoCs.
On the other side, Snapdragon 636 brings Hexagon 680 DSP coupled with Qualcomm All-Ways Aware technology. This DSP is capable to perform normal tasks only instead of heavy. So the Snapdragon 636 can’t compete with the Helio P65 in terms of AI processing.

Speaking of the camera section, here the Helio P65 got support for the 48MP camera sensor. Considering the use of this camera in the mid-range segment, the company has provided support for it. It supports single up to 48MP camera at 17fps, up to 25MP at 30fps and dual camera up to 16MP + 16MP at 30fps.
At the same time, Snapdragon 636 got the company’s own Spectra 160 image signal processor which is a 14-bit 2x ISP that can handle up to 16MP dual camera and single camera up to 24MP.
RAM & Storage
Speaking of RAM, the Helio P65 supports up to 4GB LPDDR3 RAM clocked at 900MHz and up to 8GB LPDDR4X RAM operating at up to 1800MHz while the Snapdragon 636 supports dual-channel LPDDR4X RAM up to 8GB clocked at 1333MHz. In the case of storage, both chipsets have support for eMMC 5.1 based storage.
Here the Helio P65 supports up to Full HD+(2520 x 1080) displays whereas the Snapdragon 636 also has support for Full HD+(2520 x 1080) displays.
In the connectivity section the Snapdragon 636 houses the Snapdragon X12 LTE modem that can provide a maximum download speed of 600Mbps using the LTE Cat.12 and a maximum upload speed of 150Mbps using the LTE Cat.13. For fast charging, it has support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 4 technology.
On the other side, MediaTek Helio P65 uses LTE Cat.7 to go up to 300Mbps in downloading and up to 150Mbps in uploading. Other connectivity features like Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, FM Radio, GPS, NFC, etc. are the same in both chipsets.
