MediaTek has announced a new AI platform MediaTek i700 for IoT (Internet of Things) purposes. The company has introduced this SoC as successor of MediaTek i500. It is targeted at IoT applications including Smart Displays, high-end security cameras and other more demanding applications. It arrives with many improved features such as CPU, GPU, NPU Camera any many more. MediaTek i700 vs MediaTek i500 CPU & GPU

Starting the comparision with CPU, the MediaTek i700 integrates an Octa-Core CPU which includes 2 ARM’s Cortex-A75 Cores running at 2.2GHz clock speed and other 6 Cortex-A55 Cores clocked at 2.0GHz clock speed. In the case of GPU, it features IMG PowerVR GM 9446 clocked at 970MHz. This chipset also features a dual-core NPU which increases its speed five times in face detection compared to its predecessor i500.

On the other hand, the MediaTek i500 also integrates an Octa-Core CPU which includes 4 ARM Cortex-A73 Cores and 4 Cortex-A53 Cores. This CPU runs with operating frequencies up to 2GHz. It support a maximum display resolution up to 2400 x 1080.

The MediaTek i700 is loaded with new AI engine with MediaTek APU 2.0 which features a dual-core AI processor along with AI Accelerator and AI face detection engine. It packs MediaTek NeuroPilot SDK because of that it is compatible with Google’s Android Neural Networks API with Android OS.


With the new APU 2.0, the MediaTek i700 is capable for facial recognition application such as payment authentication.

On other side, the APU of i500 runs at 500MHz and enables it deep learning, neural network acceleration and computer vision applications. The MediaTek i500 offers 5x better performance as compared to the i500 so the i500 can’t beat it in terms of APU also.

Moving on camera department, the newer MediaTek i700 is capable to handle a single camer up to 32 megapixels with up to 30fps capture and a dual camera up to 24MP + 16MP.

At the same time, the MediaTek i500 can support a single camera up to 25MP and a dual camera up to 16MP + 16MP. It can record videos in 1920 x 1080 of maximum resolution.

Connectivity wise, the i700 chipset supports Wi-Fi 5 (2×2 802.11ac) and Bluetooth version 5.0. For mobile applications it has a Cat. 12 LTE modem. The MediaTek i500 also supports Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0.
The MediaTek i700 also supports LPDDR4X RAM up to 8GB at 1866MHz.


In overall comparision, the newer MediaTek i700 is ahead of MediaTek i500 because of offers better and improved CPU as well as GPU. APU is also better of i700. Also camera and connectivity features are better of MediaTek i700 than MediaTek i500. It is introduced as successor of i500 so obviously it will also perform better than i500.
