Qualcomm is the largest chipset manufacturer of the world which produces processors under its Snapdragon series for smartphones. You can find chipsets from Qualcomm in any range from entry-level to flagship level. In past years no-one competed with Qualcomm. But now many companies like MediaTek, HiSilicon, Exynos are giving competition to Qualcomm by launching chipsets against it.

Last year Qualcomm introduced its Snapdragon 660 chipset which got a huge popularity and became the most successful chipset in mid-range. It brings many advanced features like the 14nm manufacturing process, dual 4G VoLTE, Hexagon 680 DSP to handling AI tasks, Kryo 260 CPU and Adreno 512 GPU. Many more advanced features according to that time were offered in this chipset because of which it gained huge popularity.

Now the company introduced Snapdragon 665 chipset along with Snapdragon 730 and Snapdragon 730 chipsets as its successor. This processor brings some improvements over Snapdragon 660 but not a huge. Snapdragon 665 vs Snapdragon 660 CPU & GPU

CPU

In this section, Snapdragon 665 brings a 64-bit Octa-Core CPU which includes the company’s own Kryo 260 cores. Kryo 260 Cores have a combination of 4 + 4 cores. The first 4 cores are Cortex-A73 Gold Cores operating at 2.0GHz clock speed while other 4 Cortex-A53 Silver Cores running at 1.8GHz clock speed. On the other side, Snapdragon 660 also brings 64-bit Octa-Core CPU which has Kryo 260 CPU. It has 4 Cortex-A73 Performance cores clocked at 2.2GHz and other 4 Cortex-A53 Efficiency cores running at 1.8GHz. Here Snapdragon 660 has higher frequency of first 4 Gold cores while other 4 Silver cores have same frequency in both chipsets. So here old Snapdragon 660 is better than newer Snapdragon 665

GPU

In the case of GPU, Snapdragon 660 is built with Adreno 512 GPU while Snapdragon 665 features Adreno 610 GPU which is an upgrade over Adreno 512 GPU of Snapdragon 660. Because of upgraded GPU, here Snapdragon 665 is ahead over Snapdragon 660 SoC.

Display Support

In terms of display, Snapdragon 665 supports up to FHD+ display with a maximum resolution of up to 2520x1080px while Snapdragon 660 supports Quad HD and WQXGA displays with a maximum resolution of up to 2560x1600px.

Manufacturing Process

Now let’s take a look at their manufacturing process. Snapdragon 665 is manufactured using the 11nm manufacturing process while Snapdragon 660 works on the 14nm manufacturing process. Here is a difference of 3nm in both chipsets because of which the newer Snapdragon 665 is more powerful and power-efficient chipset than old Snapdragon 660.

Speaking of the camera department, here Snapdragon 660 features Qualcomm Spectra 160 ISP which is a 14-bit 2x Image Signal Processor. This ISP can allow it to support a dual camera up to 16MP at 30fps with MFNR and ZSL. In terms of single-camera, it supports up to 25MP single camera sensor at 30fps with MFNR and ZSL. It also can go up to 48MP by compromising MFNR and ZSL. It can capture videos in slow-motion in 720p at 240fps and 1080p at 120fps while normal 4K Ultra HD at 30fps.

On the other hand, Snapdragon 665 ships with Spectra 165 ISP which is an upgrade over Spectra 160 ISP which is also a 14-bit 2x Image Signal Processor and it let Snapdragon 665 to support a dual camera up to 16MP at 30fps with MFNR and ZSL and single camera up to 25MP at 30fps with MFNR and ZSL. Without MFNR and ZSL, it can support up to the 48MP camera sensor. Here both chipsets are equal. None of them feature better camera support.

Snapdragon 665 vs Snapdragon 660 Artificial Intelligence

In terms of AI, the newer Snapdragon 665 will perform better over Snapdragon 660. To handling AI tasks, Snapdragon 660 features Qualcomm Hexagon 680 DSP. While the newer Snapdragon 665 features Qualcomm Hexagon 686 DSP which is also an upgrade over Hexagon 680 DSP of Snapdragon 660 chipset.
So in this section of AI, the newer Snapdragon 665 is ahead over older Snapdragon 660 chipset.

Connectivity Features

Connectivity-wise both chipsets are equal, both of these have Qualcomm Snapdragon X12 LTE modem for mobile internet which provides a download speed of up to 600Mbps using LTE Category 12 and an upload speed of up to 150Mbps using LTE Category 13. Both chipsets support Bluetooth version 5.0, dual-band WiFi, Dual 4G VoLTE, GPS, QZSS, GLONASS, NFC, USB 3.1, etc. To charge the battery Snapdragon 660 supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 4 technology. Whereas the Snapdragon 665 supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology which is a plus point for Snapdragon 660.

Speaking of RAM and storage support, there is no need to compare this section, because both chipsets support the same RAM and storage which is dual-channel LPDDR4 and 4x RAM up to 8GB at 1866MHz and eMMC 5.1 storage.
