Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 vs Snapdragon 712

Qualcomm is the world’s largest company that develops processors for mobiles under its Snapdragon series. Under Snapdragon there are many series like Snapdragon 200 for entry-level, Snapdragon 400 for budget-range, Snapdragon 600 for mid-range, Snapdragon 700 for upper-mid-range and Snapdragon 800 for flagship level. In past months the company introduced its three new processors as the successor of their previous variants. Snapdragon 665, 730 & 730G. Snapdragon 665 is an upgrade over Snapdragon 660, Snapdragon 730 & 730G over Snapdragon 710 & 712.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 comes with the improvements over Snapdragon which was the most successful mid-range SoC of Qualcomm, so it performs better over Snapdragon 660. But how Snapdragon 665 performs against Snapdragon 712. To know about it, we will compare Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 vs Snapdragon 712 and see the difference between Snapdragon 665 and Snapdragon 712. If you also want to know which chipset is better between Snapdragon 665 and Snapdragon 712, then read this post, here we will clear your doubts.

Snapdragon 665 vs Snapdragon 712 CPU & GPU

CPU

Starting the comparison with the CPU section, Snapdragon 665 has 64-bit octa-core which has Qualcomm Kryo 260 CPU cores. The Kryo 260 CPU includes 4 ARM Cortex-A73 Gold cores clocked at 2.00GHz and other 4 Cortex-A53 Silver cores running at 1.80GHz clock speed. While on the other side, in Snapdragon 712 you also get an octa-core CPU based on 64-bit architecture. It has Kryo 360 CPU which includes 2 Cortex-A75 Gold cores clocked at 2.30GHz and other 6 Cortex-A55 Silver cores operating at 1.70GHz clock speed.

In the case of CPU, Snapdragon 712 is a better processor than Snapdragon 665 having newer and better CPU cores having higher CPU frequency.

GPU

Coming to the GPU section, here Snapdragon 665 got Qualcomm Adreno 610 GPU while in Snapdragon 712, you get the company’s Adreno 616 GPU with a peak frequency of 550MHz. The Adreno 612 is an upgrade over Adreno 610 while Adreno 616 is an upgrade over Adreno 612, so the Adreno 610 present on Snapdragon 665, can’t beat Adreno 616 of Snapdragon 712. Here also the GPU of Snapdragon 712 is better than the GPU of Snapdragon 665.

Manufacturing Process

Talking about their manufacturing process, Snapdragon 665 is manufactured on the 11nm manufacturing process while Snapdragon 712 works on the 10nm manufacturing process, so here again Snapdragon 712 wins having better manufacturing. Having a better manufacturing process, Snapdragon 712 is a more powerful and more power-efficient processor than Snapdragon 665. Snapdragon 712 is an upper-mid-range processor while Snapdragon 665 is a mid-range processor, so obviously, Snapdragon 712 can’t let Snapdragon 665 go ahead.

Snapdragon 665 vs Snapdragon 712 Supported Features

Camera

Moving to their camera department, Snapdragon 665 comes with Qualcomm Spectra 165 image signal processor – a 14-bit dual ISP. Using this ISP, Snapdragon 665 can support up to 16MP dual camera sensors at 30fps with MFNR & ZSL and single camera sensor up to 25MP at 30fps with MFNR & ZSL. Without MFNR & ZSL, it can go up to 48MP. Speaking of video recording, it can record 720p videos at 240fps, 1080p at 120fps and 4K UHD at 30fps.

On the other side, in Snapdragon 712 you get Spectra 250 Image Signal Processor which is also a 14-bit dual ISP and capable to support a dual camera up to 20MP at 30fps with MFNR & ZSL and single camera up to 32MP at 30fps with MFNR & ZSL. With MFNR only, it can support up to 48MP camera and up to 192MP without MFNR & ZSL. It also can record videos the same as Snapdragon 665.

RAM & Storage

In this section, both processors are the same. Both Snapdragon 665 and Snapdragon 712 support Dual-Channel, 16 bit LPDDR4X RAM up to 8GB with a frequency of 1866MHz. Both support the same storage which is UFS 2.1 & eMMC 5.1.

Display

In the display section, Snapdragon 665 can support up to Full HD+ display with a maximum resolution of 2520×1080 pixels while Snapdragon 712 can support up to Quad HD+ HDR10 displays with a resolution of up to 3360×1440 pixels. Here again, Snapdragon 712 is ahead over Snapdragon 665 having support for better displays.

Snapdragon 665 vs Snapdragon 712 Artificial Intelligence

For handling AI tasks, Snapdragon 712 got Qualcomm Hexagon 685 DSP coupled with Hexagon Vector eXtensions and Qualcomm All-Ways Aware technology. While on the other side, Snapdragon 665 has Qualcomm Hexagon 686 DSP which is an upgrade over Hexagon 685 DSP present on Snapdragon 712. Having upgraded DSP, Snapdragon 665 is a batter chipset than Snapdragon 712. Snapdragon 665 can handle AI tasks smoothly compared to Snapdragon 712.

Snapdragon 665 vs Snapdragon 712 Connectivity Features Comparison

Here Snapdragon 665 ships with Qualcomm Snapdragon X12 LTE modem which can provide a download speed of up to 600Mbps using LTE Cat.12 and maximum upload speed up to 150Mbps using LTE Cat.13.

While Snapdragon 712 got Snapdragon X15 LTE modem which is an upgrade over Snapdragon X12 LTE modem of Snapdragon 665 processor. The modem of Snapdragon 712 can capture a maximum download speed of 800Mbps using LTE Cat.15 and uploading speed of up to 150Mbps using LTE Cat.13. For fast charging, this SoC supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology while Snapdragon 665 supports Quick Charge 3.0 technology. Other features like Bluetooth 5.0, Dual-band WiFi, VoWiFi, Dual 4G VoLTE, NFC, GPS, USB 3.1, USB-C, etc. are the same in both SoC.
