In December 2018, MediaTek announced its Helio P90 chipset. Don’t know why smartphone manufacturers haven’t adopted this processor in their smartphones while it brings many improved features over MediaTek Helio P60 and Helio P70 chipsets. There are only a few smartphones available in the market paired with the MediaTek Helio P90 processor. In AI performance, this processor performs very well in the mid-range segment. Snapdragon 710 is also a mid-range processor from Qualcomm under Snapdragon 700 series. Starting the comparison with the CPU of Snapdragon 710, it got a 64-bit octa-core CPU which brings Qualcomm Kryo 360 CPU cores. Speaking of Qualcomm Kryo 360 CPU, it includes eight CPU cores having 2 ARM Cortex-A75 Gold cores clocked at 2.2GHz and other 6 Cortex-A55 Silver cores running at 1.7GHz. While on the other MediaTek Helio P90 also features same CPU cores as Snapdragon 710 with different clock speeds. It also has a 64-bit octa-core CPU including 2 ARM Cortex-A75 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and other 6 Cortex-A55 cores running at 2.00GHz.

Here in the case of CPU, MediaTek Helio P90 wins having better CPU frequency. The first two Cortex-A75 cores have the same frequency in both chipsets while the 6 Cortex-A55 cores have a higher frequency in Helio P90. Having higher CPU frequency, MediaTek Helio P90 will deliver better performance to the device.


In the case of GPU, Snapdragon 710 features the company’s Adreno 616 GPU with a maximum speed of 500MHz while on the other side, MediaTek Helio P90 is coupled with PowerVR GM 9446 GPU clocked at 0.97GHz(970MHz). Here the winner could be declared after a hands-on comparison of both chipsets. It would be known after the launch of any smartphone with the Helio P90 processor.

Manufacturing Process

Speaking of the manufacturing process, Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 is manufactured using the 10nm fabrication process while the Helio P90 is fabricated on the 12nm manufacturing process like other mid-range processors of the company. In this section, MediaTek is not doing any improvements in its mid-range processor for a long time. Having a better manufacturing process, Snapdragon 710 is ahead over MediaTek Helio P90 in this section.

Coming to the camera department, here Snapdragon 710 got Qualcomm Spectra 250 image signal processor which is a 14-bit dual ISP and supports up to 20MP dual camera at 30fps with MFNR(Multi-Frame Noise Reduction) and ZSL(Zero Shutter Lag). While in terms of a single camera, it supports up to 32MP single camera at 30fps with MFNR & ZSL, up to 48MP with MFNR only and up to 192MP without MFNR & ZSL. It is capable to record videos in 1080p at 120fps and 4K UHD at 30fps.

On the other side, MediaTek Helio P90 is capable to support up to 24MP + 16MP dual and up to 48MP single camera sensor. It can record videos with a 48MP camera at 30fps and 120fps with a 16MP camera sensor.

RAM & Storage Support

Talking about Snapdragon 710, it supports the dual-channel and 16-bit LPDDR4X RAM up to 8GB clocked at 1866MHz while MediaTek Helio P90 also supports the same dual-channel and 16-bit LPDDR4X RAM up to 8GB with a maximum speed of 1866MHz.

In the case of storage, Snapdragon 710 supports UFS 2.1 and eMMC 5.1 based storage while MediaTek Helio P90 supports UFS 2.1 based storage.

Display Support

In this case, Snapdragon 710 can support up to Quad HD+(3360×1440) HDR10 displays while MediaTek Helio P90 can support up to 4K displays with a maximum resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels.

Snapdragon 710 Vs Helio P90 Artificial Intelligence

The trend of AI is going on slowly-slowly. In terms of AI, the mid-range processors of MediaTek are better than the mid-range processors on Qualcomm. When the Snapdragon 710 was launched, then the trend of AI was not so much, so the company hasn’t focused on AI in this processor. To handling AI-related tasks, in Snapdragon 710, the company has provided Hexagon 685 DSP coupled with 3rd generation vector extension and All-Wave Aware Sensor Hub.

On the other side, MediaTek has focused on AI in the Helio P90 chipset. It brings 4X improvements over Helio P60 and Helio P70. It brings an integrated NPU with a peak performance of 1,127 GMAC/s. So in the case of AI, MediaTek Helio P90 is quite a better processor than Snapdragon 710.

Connectivity Features Comparison

Here the Snapdragon 710 got Qualcomm Snapdragon X15 LTE modem. This modem can allow it to capture a download speed up to 800Mbps using LTE Cat.15 and uploading speed up to 150Mbps using LTE Cat.13. It also has support for Dual 4G Volte, Dual Band WiFi, BlueTooth 5.0, USB 3.1, Type-C, NFC, GPS, and Qualcomm Quick Charge 4 technology for fast charging.

At the same time, MediaTek Helio P90 can capture a maximum download speed of 600Mbps using LTE Cat.12 and uploading speed of 150Mbps using LTE Cat.13. It also supports Dual 4G Volte, Bluetooth 5.0, FM Radio, Wi-Fi, GPS, etc.
