Last year Qualcomm brought its Snapdragon 700 series by launching Snapdragon 710 chipset in the mid-range segment. The main motive of the company to launch this series was filling the gap between Snapdragon 600 and 800 series. Snapdragon 710 became successful and many smartphone manufacturers adopted it. Now recently the company unveiled Snapdragon 712 as its successor. In the comparison of Snapdragon 712 and 710, we saw this chipset got improved features over Snapdragon 710. MediaTek Helio P70 is also a mid-range chipset having stronger features. It also brings strong CPU, GPU, and AI features. Starting the comparison with the CPU section of Qualcomm Snapdragon 712, it brings an octa-core CPU with a 64-bit architecture having the Kryo 360 CPU. The Kryo 360 is Qualcomm’s custom CPU which includes 2 high-performance cores which are ARM Cortex-A75 Gold cores clocked at 2.30GHz and other 6 high-efficiency cores which includes 6 Cortex-A55 Silver cores with a frequency of 1.70GHz. At the same time, MediaTek Helio P70 also got an eight-core CPU based on 64-bit memory architecture. Its CPU has a combination of 4 + 4 cores. The first 4 cores are big cores including 4 ARM Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.10GHz and other 4 Cortex-A53 little cores running at 2.00GHz.
In the case of CPU, Snapdragon 712 is a better chipset having better and latest CPU cores having a higher frequency of big cores.
Speaking of their GPU section where Snapdragon 712 features the company’s Adreno 616 GPU having a frequency of 550MHz. While MediaTek Helio P70 got ARM Mali-G72 GPU clocked at 900MHz. Here the Helio P70 has higher GPU frequency while Snapdragon 712 features better GPU for the smooth gaming experience. So in the case of GPU, Snapdragon 712 also wins having a better GPU.
Looking at their manufacturing process, Snapdragon 712 is fabricated on the 10nm manufacturing process. On the other side, almost all the mid-range chipset of MediaTek work on 12nm manufacturing. The Helio P70 also manufactured using the 12nm process technology like other chipsets of MediaTek. Here the difference of 2nm makes a more power-efficient and powerful chipset to Snapdragon 712 compared to the Helio P70. So in this section, again Snapdragon 712 is ahead over the Helio P70.
Snapdragon 712 vs Helio P70 Artificial Intelligence
Speaking of Snapdragon 712, it features Hexagon 685 DSP coupled with Hexagon Vector eXtensions and the company’s All-Ways Aware technology. This is the company’s 3rd generation engine featuring AI features like auto scene detection and object recognition. While speaking of the Helio P70, it brings improved AI features over the Helio P60 which performs very well in the mid-range in terms of AI processing. The Helio P60 can easily beat Snapdragon 712 in the case of AI. If the Helio P60 is a better chipset than Snapdragon 712 in terms of AI then obviously the Helio P70 is also a more powerful chipset than Snapdragon 712 in the case of AI processing and it can provide a peak performance of 280 GMAC/s.
So in terms of AI, the Helio P70 is much better chipset than the Snapdragon 712.

In this section, Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 got Snapdragon X15 LTE modem with a maximum download speed of 800Mbps using LTE Cat.15 and maximum uploading speed of 150Mbps using LTE Cat.13. This chipset also supports other features such as Dual-band WiFi, VoWiFi, Dual 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS, USB 3.1, USB-C and Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology for fast charging.
On the other side, the Helio P70 is capable of capturing download speed of up to 300Mbps using LTE Cat.7 and an uploading speed of up to 150Mbps using LTE Cat.13. It also got support for Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi 5, GPS, FM Radio, etc.
Snapdragon 712 vs Helio P70 Other Features
Moving to the camera department where Snapdragon 712 has Qualcomm Spectra 250 image sensor processor – a 14 bit dual IPS. This ISP is capable to support a dual camera up to 20MP and a single camera up to 32MP with MFNR & ZSL at 30fps. If you want to use a 48MP camera sensor then you have to compromise with ZSL and by compromising with both MFNR & ZSL you can use up to 192MP single camera sensor with Snapdragon 712 chipset.
On the other hand, MediaTek Helio P70 can support a 32MP single camera sensor at 30fps and a dual camera up to 20MP + 16MP at 90fps.
RAM & Storage
Talking about Snapdragon 712, it has support for 16-bit dual-channel LPDDR4X RAM up to 8GB clocked at 1866MHz and UFS 2.1 based storage.
While MediaTek Helio P70 supports LPDDR3 RAM up to 4GB clocked at 900MHz and 16-bit dual-channel LPDDR4X RAM up to 8GB clocked at 1800MHz. It also supports eMMC 5.1 & UFS 2.1 types of storage.
Here the Helio P70 supports Full HD+ displays with a maximum resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels while Snapdragon 712 can support Quad HD+ HDR10 displays with a maximum resolution of 3360 x 1440 pixels. Here Snapdragon 712 is a better chipset than the Helio P70 having support for better displays.
