MediaTek 5G SoC Details
In May 2019, MediaTek announced its 5G-enabled SoC based on 7nm FinFET process. The name of this SoC could be MediaTek M70. The MediaTek 5G SoC features a built-in 5G Modem and ARM’s Cortex-A77 CPUs as well as Mali-G77 GPU.
The MediaTek M70 5G will go for mass-produced by the end of 2019 and devices powered by MediaTek 5G SoC will be available from the first quarter of 2020. And now the Geekbench score of this SoC has been surfaced on the web that shows the performance of MediaTek 5G SoC.
On the Geekbench, the MediaTek M70 5G scored 3447 points single-core test and 12151 points in the multi-core score. It tested on the device that runs on Android 10 operating system.
The MediaTek M70 5G SoC scored less in the single-core test compared to the Kirin 990 5G while in multi-core score it outperforms the Kirin 990 5G. On the Geekbench it also exceeds the Vivo Nex 3 based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ chipset.
The features and specs of MediaTek M70 5G SoC were not revealed by the company when the company announced this chipset in May 2019 but the Chinese tech blogger Digital Chat Station revealed that the MediaTek 5G Chipset would feature ARM’s Cortex-A77 CPU clocked at 2.30GHz clock speed. He also added the price of the phone based on this chipset which will cost around ¥3000 (~$420).
MediaTek’s 5G processor will come in a Chinese smartphone first, but it is not clear that which smartphone manufacturer will use it first. However, Oppo and Vivo seem to use it first of all.
MediaTek said “it is aiming for 60 million shipments of 5G chips next year. To achieve this, we expect it to bring Huawei and HMD-Global on-board. We also expect that the Taiwanese company will announce another SoC with an integrated 5G modem as a follow-up with most likely a higher clock-speed.”
Exynos 980 5G SoC
Apart from this Samsung is only the 5G SoC manufacturer for affordable 5G devices and Vivo already confirmed to use the Exynos 980 5G SoC in its smartphone.
Snapdragon 865 5G SoC
Qualcomm is also about to launch its 5G SoC with an integrated 5G Modem in Q4 2019, and it will be Snapdragon 865. Let’s know when the company launches this SoC and when Vivo brings its 5G smartphone based on Exynos 980 SoC and when the MediaTek M70 5G SoC will be available in the smartphones.
