Last year MediaTek introduced Helio P90 chipset as the successor of Helio P70. This chipset brings improvements over Helio P70. Many smartphone manufacturers adopted Helio P70 in their smartphones but don’t know why Helio P90 is not adopted by any smartphone manufacturer in India while it features very good performance. On the other side, Qualcomm also announced recently its Snapdragon 730 & 730G chipsets as successors of Snapdragon 710 & 712. Considering this we decided to compare Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 vs MediaTek Helio P90 chipsets to know which chipset is better between Snapdragon 730 and Helio P90.
Xiaomi Redmi K20 brings Snapdragon 730 SoC and it performs very well over Snapdragon 710 and Snapdragon 675. While to see the performance of MediaTek Helio P90, there is no any smartphone available in the Indian market. Snapdragon 730 vs Helio P90 CPU & GPU
Starting with the CPU of Qualcomm Snapdragon 730, it got 64-bit octa-core CPU which features the company’s Kryo 470 CPU. Explaining Kryo 470 CPU, it includes 2+6 cores combination, 2 are ARM’s Cortex-A76 Gold cores clocked at 2.20GHz and 6 Cortex-A55 Silver cores operating at 1.80GHz clock speed. While on the other hand, MediaTek Helio P90 also features eight-core CPU based on a 64-bit architecture which includes 4 ARM Cortex-A75 powerful cores clocked at 2.20GHz and other 4 Cortex-A55 efficiency cores running at 2.00GHz clock speed.
Here in the case of CPU, the newer Snapdragon 730 outperforms over MediaTek Helio P90 having the latest CPU cores.
Coming to their GPU section, here Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 features the company’s Adreno 618 GPU clocked at 500MHz while MediaTek Helio P90 is coupled with PowerVR GM 9446 GPU running at 970MHz clock speed. Here Snapdragon 730 got better GPU while MediaTek Helio P90 features higher frequency to its GPU.
Speaking of Snapdragon 730, it brings improvements over Snapdragon 710 & 712. Snapdragon 710 & 712 working on the 10nm manufacturing process while Snapdragon 730 works on the 8nm fabrication process. On the other side, MediaTek Helio P90 is fabricated on the 12nm manufacturing process the same as other mid-range chipsets of MediaTek. Here is the difference of 4nm between their manufacturing process because of which Snapdragon 730 is a more power-efficient and powerful chipset than Helio P90.
Snapdragon 730 vs Helio P90 AI Capabilities
Both chipsets bring improved AI features over their previous generations. Snapdragon 730 features Qualcomm Neural Processing SDK along with Hexagon 688 DSP coupled with Hexagon Vector eXtensions, Voice Assistant and Qualcomm All-Ways Aware technology. The combination of these features helps this chipset to perform AI tasks smoothly.
On the other side, all the chipsets of the Helio P series bring improved AI features over their previous generations. Helio P60 was the first mid-range chipset having dedicated APU. After that Helio P70 brought improved APU 2.0. Now Helio P90 got improved AI features over Helio P60 and Helio P70. It features 4 times better AI Processor than Helio P60 and P70. The Helio P90 performs better than Snapdragon 845 and almost closer to newly launched 7nm based Snapdragon 855 on the AI benchmarking scores. It performs almost the same as Snapdragon 855 flagship chipset so, Snapdragon 730 – an upper mid-range chipset, can’t beat it in terms of AI processing. So in terms of AI, MediaTek Helio P90 outperforms over Snapdragon 730.
In this section, Snapdragon 730 got the company’s own Snapdragon X15 LTE modem which can allow it to capture a downloading speed of up to 800Mbps using LTE Cat.15 and uploading speed of up to 150Mbps using LTE Cat.13. It also supports for features such as Dual 4G VoLTE, Vo WiFi, Tri-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, FM Radio, NFC, USB 3.1, USB-C and Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology for fast charging.
On the other side, MediaTek Helio P90 uses LTE Cat.12 to providing a download speed of up to 600Mbps and maximum uploading speed of 150Mbps using LTE Cat.13. It also has support for Bluetooth 5.0 WiFi 5, GPU, FM Radio, Dual 4G VoLTE, etc.
Snapdragon 730 vs Helio P90 Other Features
Speaking of camera department of Snapdragon 730, it features Spectra 350 image signal processor – a 14-bit dual ISP that can handle dual camera up to 22MP at 30fps with MFNR & ZSL and single camera up to 36MP at 30fps with MFNR & ZSL. It also can support up to 48MP camera sensor with MFNR only and without MFNR & ZSL, it can go up to 192MP. Speaking of its recording capability, it is capable to record 720p videos at 240fps, 1080p at 120fps and 4K UHD at 30fps.
While on the other side, MediaTek Helio P90 can support up to 24MP + 16MP dual camera sensors at 120fps and single camera up to 48MP at 30fps with ZSD.
RAM & Storage
Here Snapdragon 730 can support 16-bit Dual-Channel LPDDR4X RAM up to 8GB clocked at 1866MHz and UFS 2.0 based storage while MediaTek Helio P90 also supports same 16-bit Dual-Channel LPDDR4X RAM up to 8GB operating at 1866MHz UFS 2.0 based storage too.
Here also both chipsets support the same display resolution which is Full HD Plus(2520x1080px).
